​Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States, with opioid abuse fueling the epidemic. In 2014, more than 14,000 people in the United States died from overdosing on prescription opioids, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With the problem spiraling out of control, and not enough resources to help those suffering from addiction, it may be time to think out of the box, said Robert Ferguson, JHF’s director of government grants and policy.
